WILDERNESS CAMP
WILDERNESS CAMP
WILDERNESS CAMP
Nordic Woods is located on the edge of the wilderness, near the Åsnen National Park in the south of Sweden. From your tipi, you have a view of the Swedish forests, where you can explore the nature of Sweden by hiking after a short road-crossing. On the other side, you overlook a wide lake, where you can explore a whole network of lakes and rivers by canoe.
Nordic Woods is located right next to Åsnen National Park, on the edge of the Swedish Hönshyltefjorden. From here, you can explore the wilderness both on foot and from your canoe.
Explore the surrounding lakes and remote islands with our Canadian Long Canoes, which are ready for you at the lake.
A pizza from the wood-fired oven can be found at the Nordic Bistrø. After a lovely day in nature, you can stop by for a refreshing drink and one of the pizzas. You can choose from options like the Caprese, Salsiccia, or the Nordic Pizza.
The Nordic Bistrø is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays, from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
You can also visit the Nordic Bistrø daily for fresh sandwiches and croissants. The Bistrø Bakery is open from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM.
In the living room of Nordic Woods, you can gather together for a drink and marshmallows by the campfire.
Enjoy a warm wood-fired hot tub with a view of the lake and, in the evening, a sparkling starry sky.
You can participate in daily yoga sessions in the large tipi. Later in the evening, it's the perfect place to build a roaring campfire or play a game of Werewolves.
In the middle of the lake, you'll find our large barrel sauna, where you can warm up before jumping into the cool water!
It takes a bit of luck, but every now and then you can catch a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis from the Nordic Woods camp, better known as the Northern Lights. The colorful spectacle visible from Nordic Woods is purple. This is related to the type of atmosphere that solar particles interact with.
Nordic Woods is located directly on the Hönshyltefjorden, an extensive lake system that flows into the Brändeborgsfjorden. At the edge of the Nordic Woods Camp, several Canadian canoes are ready for you to explore the lakes.
You will receive a brief explanation from the Nordic Woods team before getting on the canoe. Life jackets, paddles, and waterproof barrels are included.
Around Nordic Woods, you'll find countless hiking trails that take you through the pristine nature of southern Sweden. From peaceful forest paths to adventurous treks through the Scandinavian wilderness.
Thanks to its unique location, close to several nature reserves and the famous Åsnen National Park, there are hikes for every level: short walks right from the property, or longer day trips through the surrounding national parks.
Whether you choose a guided hike with one of our guides or prefer to explore on your own using routes from our Travelbase App – every step brings you closer to the tranquility, peace, and magic of Swedish nature.
At the edge of Norraryds, you will find the Lake Side Sauna on the lake. From the land, you can walk to this sauna via a jetty, where you can relax perfectly. The sauna offers a panoramic view of the lake.
Also located on the edge of the lake is a wood-fired hot tub. Perfect for a wonderfully relaxing evening!
After the sauna or hot tub, feel like taking a refreshing dip? The lake is just a few meters away and offers delightful swimming water.
During the week, you can reserve a number of time slots in the sauna and hot tub.
Discover how to chop wood safely and effectively, and how to build a campfire during our crew's workshops.
During the week, a comprehensive outdoor BBQ will be organized, with options for vegetarian, vegan, fish & meat.

By Car
If you're driving from the Netherlands, with short stops included, it takes about 12 to 13 hours to reach the Norraryds camping (Hönshylte, 360 10 Ryd, Sweden). The Nordic Woods camp is easy to spot thanks to the signs and the many tipis.
For Electric Cars, there are charging points at the ICA (supermarket) in Ryd, the village close to Nordic Woods.
Flying
If flying is your preference, you can do so via Copenhagen. From the airport, you can take the train to Växjö, and from there catch a bus to Ryd. You can get off at the Norraryd bus station. From there, it's just a 10-minute walk to the Nordic Woods site.
Keep in mind; public transport in Sweden is fairly good but not comparable to the Netherlands. Take the time to check your route and connections carefully.
Starting at 4:00 PM, you are welcome to check in on the arrival day. We ask that you arrive no later than 5:00 PM, so our guides can give you a warm welcome. On the last day, you can check out starting at 8:00 AM and you must be checked out by 10:00 AM at the latest. The accommodations should be left in the same condition as when you arrived.
At the camp, there's a shared outdoor kitchen with several basic gas burners.
Each accommodation has its own cutlery, plates, and pots to prepare a full meal. Additionally, each accommodation has its own fire pit and tripod. Cooking over an open fire requires some attention, but it's an incredibly fun experience!
During the week, there will be one outdoor BBQ that you can join.
You can also dine at the Nordic Bistrø, where you can enjoy various types of pizzas and a nice drink.
Just a few minutes' drive or about a 30-minute walk from the Nordic Woods site, you'll find a supermarket in the village of Ryd where you can do your shopping.

At Nordic Woods, you can enjoy a cozy fire at your accommodation. You will receive 1 complimentary bag of firewood for this purpose. The rest can be easily purchased from the Nordic Woods team. Building a campfire is allowed unless there is a fire ban in effect in Sweden. The team will keep you informed about this.
We are located in the middle of the woods, and there are certain rules and guidelines to follow. Perhaps the most well-known is leave nothing but footprints, which means you shouldn’t leave any items or trash behind in the woods or on the grounds. Additionally, amplified music is not allowed. A small music speaker is usually permitted until 10 PM. Acoustic instruments, like a guitar, are also allowed.
After 11 PM, it should be quiet around the accommodations, so everyone can enjoy a good night's sleep.
Pets are welcome at Nordic Woods, as long as they're friendly! The owner must keep an eye on the dog, clean up any (dog) poop, and ensure that digging doesn't occur. Additionally, animals must be leashed due to the presence of wild animals and birds.
The planet offers us so much beauty to admire, but if we want to continue enjoying it for a long time, we must protect it more than ever today. In the booking form, you have the option to easily and reliably offset the CO2 emissions of your trip through Greentripper.
Your contribution will be used through a climate project to plant enough trees that will convert the equivalent of your CO2 emissions into oxygen. Additionally, the project supports the protection of 785,000 hectares of beautiful forests and the wildlife that inhabits them. Official carbon credit certificates documenting your offset will be issued on a monthly basis.
Nordic Woods is closer to the North Pole, which means it stays light for much longer. While the sunset to the south is a brief experience, you can sometimes enjoy the most beautiful colors during sunset in Nordic Woods for up to 4 hours. The sun won't set until around midnight.
That's why it's also recommended to bring an eye mask.
The tipis are equipped with electricity and have several power outlets, so you can charge your mobile phone, for example.
On the Nordic Woods site, you will find a simple sanitary block with showers and toilets within short walking distance from the accommodations. In peak season, the hot water supply may be limited, so it's best to shower at different times.
Between the Nordic Woods site and the forests lies the Storgatan road. You may hear it during the night. Therefore, we recommend light sleepers to bring earplugs.
These terms are available for anyone who booked before January 16. You can use them to change your trip to another date within the same season (subject to availability) or cancel for free before April 1, 2026.
Through our external partner, you can sometimes sign up for caving.
During this activity, you'll crawl through narrow passages deep inside the caves and discover hidden spots that you would never see otherwise. Caving is a unique experience that you don't get to have every day.
The activity is available for kids from 7 years old, but you will need a bit of courage: it can be quite thrilling!
